Love the outdoors? Want to make a positive difference in the world you live in? Did you celebrate Earth Day this year? Earth Day is an annual event created to celebrate the environment and raise awareness about pollution worldwide. The day, April 22nd, is celebrated with a host of outdoor activities, conferences, rallies, and service projects. At Yes!, we join to celebrate our planet through energy saving tips in the home for our customers. We like to promote energy and water saving to help our planet earth year-round!

In honor of this month’s Earth Day and summer just around the corner, here’s some tips from our team at Yes!

Unplug Your Electronics

Many electronics and appliances use electricity even if you are not actively using them. To save energy in your home, when finished using a product be sure to unplug or power down the device, including computers, coffee machines, blenders and more.

Program Your Thermostat

Give your air conditioner a rest when you’re away from home for a few hours. It is advised to set a programmable thermostat to kick in about 1-2 hours prior to returning back home. By turning down the thermostat, it will increase your cooling costs by about 7 percent. Be sure to take into consideration if you have any heat-sensitive indoor pets.

Wash in Cold Water

Did you know that about 90 percent of the energy used to wash a load of laundry goes to heating the water? Some linens will require to be washed in warm water, but if that’s not the case, use cold water during your wash to save energy.

Clean Out Your Filters

A clogged filter will cause the air filter to slow down and will make the system work harder than it needs to. It is advised that you should change the filters every 3 months to achieve optimal energy efficiency.

Reduce Shower Time

A typical shower mostly uses 2.5 gallons per minute. By taking shorter showers by about 3-5 minutes you are saving 3650 gallons annually.

Air Dry Dishes

Once the dishwasher has completed its washing cycle, open the dishwasher and air dry your dishes to save energy. Doing this saves your dishwasher’s energy by 15-50% and your home’s energy!

At Yes!, saving energy can be easy as 1,2,3! Make it a point to take care of the planet by taking these tips on how to make the most of living in an energy efficient household.
